Job Overview & Responsibilities

The Sales Account Representative supports the development and execution of Emergent’s Red Hat federal territory plan by generating qualified opportunities, maintaining accurate account and pipeline data, coordinating with Red Hat and internal resources, and supporting opportunities through the sales lifecycle. The role builds relationships with customer, OEM, and partner contacts; researches assigned accounts; conducts prospecting and follow-up; and helps prepare customer presentations and proposals with technical and sales leadership support. The Sales Account Representative is expected to demonstrate strong activity discipline, responsiveness, attention to detail, and continuous development of Red Hat product, federal-market, and sales-process knowledge.

 

The Sales Account Representative works closely with our internal account team members as well as our sales leadership to create, manage and execute on the territory sales plan. This position collaborates with the marketing team for lead generation and other marketing-related activities, and works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative and interfaces with various teams and management across the organization to complete tasks. Works independently and develops solutions with a high degree of complexity and scope.

 

Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

  • Development and execution of the assigned federal territory plan in coordination with Emergent sales leadership and Red Hat account and channel teams.
  • Build and maintain productive and relevant relationships with customer, Red Hat, partner, and internal contacts, escalating executive engagement needs to sales leadership as appropriate.
  • Conduct prospecting, account research, contact mapping, whitespace analysis, campaign follow-up, and other activities that generate qualified meetings and opportunities.
  • Identify and support net-new, renewal, expansion, services, and training opportunities within assigned Red Hat federal accounts; progressively assume direct ownership as proficiency is demonstrated.
  • Work with Red Hat sellers, solution architects, and Emergent technical resources to understand customer needs and position subscriptions, consulting, training, migration, and automation solutions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely Salesforce records, including opportunity names, stages, values, close dates, forecast categories, contacts, next steps, activities, and applicable supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate deal execution activities, including quotes, pricing approvals, proposals, opportunity registration, OEM requirements, contracts, legal, sales operations, technical resources, and customer follow-up.
  • Develop working knowledge of federal procurement cycles, fiscal-year timing, RFQs, RFPs, RFIs, contract vehicles, reseller requirements, and relevant procurement portals.
  • Follow and demonstrate the Emergent Sales Methodology throughout the sales process and promptly identify risks, dependencies, deadlines, and required customer or internal actions.
  • Partner with marketing on lead-generation programs, events, presentations, campaign follow-up, and conversion of qualified leads into sales activity.
  • Complete required Red Hat product and sales training and develop baseline knowledge of RHEL, OpenShift, Ansible Automation Platform, subscriptions, consulting, and training offerings.
  • Support post-award transition, customer follow-up, renewal planning, and identification of cross-sell and expansion opportunities.
  • Meet or exceed assigned activity, pipeline, revenue, gross-profit, renewal, and sales targets.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, sales, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 1-2 years of sales, business development, customer service, or related experience; technical sales or federal-market experience is preferred.
  • Experience using and maintaining a CRM system; Salesforce experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work the business hours required to support the assigned territory.
  • Demonstrated success against individual activity, pipeline, revenue, or other measurable performance goals.
  • Ability to engage customers, vendors, and technical resources in a consultative manner and coordinate the development of technology solutions.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (KSAs):

  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated ability or aptitude to develop productive customer, OEM, partner, and internal relationships.
  • Strong organization, follow-through, responsiveness, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple deadlines, and promptly escalate risks or blockers.
  • CRM discipline and ability to maintain accurate pipeline, forecast, contact, and activity data.
  • Ability to research federal accounts, identify relevant contacts and programs, and translate findings into targeted sales activity.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with sales, technical, marketing, contracts, legal, operations, and OEM teams.
  • Foundational business and financial acumen, including basic pricing, margin, forecasting, and pipeline concepts.
  • Presentation, discovery, and active-listening skills appropriate for customer and partner interactions.
  • Curiosity and commitment to continuous learning about Red Hat offerings, federal procurement, and Emergent’s sales process.
  • Sound judgment, critical thinking, coachability, and willingness to apply feedback.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and the ability to learn additional sales and procurement systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Expertise in developing and maintaining successful customer and vendor relationships.
