Job Overview & Responsibilities

We are seeking a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer with a strong foundation in DoD environments, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and Linux-based systems. While this role supports an AI/ML-enabled program, the primary focus is infrastructure -  building, operating, and securing the environments that make advanced decision-support systems possible for Army commanders operating across distributed echelons. The engineer will lead the metric gathering and API interfaces for an edge device emulation system, build and maintain an edge emulation environment on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and ensure continuous inference capability for real-time operational decision making in contested, resource-constrained environments.

If you have deep experience working within DoD programs, hands-on OCI and Linux expertise, and familiarity with Oracle tools like Autonomous Database and APEX, this role is built for you. AI/ML exposure is helpful, but it's your infrastructure depth and defense background that will set you apart. This position is a hands-on technical role working with Army government personnel and industry partners to integrate the testing of AI models using a variety of distribution and deployment technologies including PyTorch, MAR files, and ONNX into an operationally viable architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Architecture & Cloud Engineering
  • Build and maintain robust cloud infrastructure on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) as the backbone for AI/ML model testing and edge emulation environments.
  • Build open source-based solutions that enable the collection of performance metrics, including CPU, GPU, and LLM metrics, into an Oracle Autonomous Database.
  • Benchmark models engineered for edge deployment, with simulated size/weight/power (SWaP) configurations.
  • Implement MLOps pipelines enabling testing of models against multiple simulated edge devices.
  • Develop both web interfaces and RESTful APIs for the emulation management console using Oracle APEX.

Edge System Parameterization & Emulation

  • Operationalize the parameterization of designated edge systems to characterize compute, storage, SWaP, networking, and mission constraints.
  • Design, stand up, and maintain a full edge-system emulation environment on OCI, enabling model testing, profiling, and automated deployment optimization.
  • Define performance benchmarks and evaluate model behavior under contested and low-bandwidth edge conditions.

Multicloud Integration (OCI + AWS + Army Infrastructure)

  • Implement integration of Git to check out models for testing.
  • Enhance and manage an emulated edge system, parameters, and performance metrics from testing for external system query and model tuning.
  • Support secure data ingest, cross-cloud orchestration, and API-based interoperability across Oracle Cloud, AWS, and Army systems.
  • Apply working knowledge of DoD security frameworks, enclave boundaries, and cross-domain workflows to ensure compliant, secure architectures.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with industry partners to ensure alignment with mission objectives, technical baselines, and security requirements.
  • Provide technical mentorship to other team members, system developers, data engineers, and system integrators supporting the program.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must be a US Citizen with a minimum of a Tier 3 Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience
  • 12 years of work experience with 8+ years of hands-on experience in distributed systems or edge computing
  • Proficiency in Linux system administration and operations in DoD or defense environments
  • Strong working knowledge of DoD programs, security requirements, and defense IT environments, including exposure to database management, Oracle APEX, and secure architecture design
  • Experience with database design, management, and API integration
  • Strong expertise in Python, deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow), and MLOps tooling
  • Deep knowledge of edge compute architectures, SWaP-constrained systems, and model compression/optimization techniques (quantization, pruning, distillation)
  • Familiarity with tactical edge data patterns, ISR sensor ingest, and real-time decision models
  • Experience designing or running emulation/simulation environments for edge or embedded systems
  • Ability to work with government stakeholders in a highly collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DoD programs, C5ISR, or tactical edge AI systems
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, containerization, and cross-cloud orchestration
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Oracle Autonomous Database, Ansible, and REST APIs
  • Understanding of multicloud security architectures, cross-domain workflows, and enclave boundary constraints
